Edmund is the community just west of Springdale, strung out along Edmund Highway as it runs from the airport area toward the open country of southern Lexington County. It is not a tight little downtown the way some towns are. Edmund spreads out, part subdivision and part farmland, with newer homes going up on what used to be open acreage and older houses sitting back off the highway on bigger lots. The area straddles a couple of school districts, which tells you something about how it sits right on the seam between the suburban edge of the airport corridor and the rural south end of the county.
For carpet, that in-between character is the whole story. A house near the Edmund Highway end picks up the same airport-corridor traffic and clay that Springdale homes do, while a place further out toward the farms deals with even more open soil and dirt-road dust. Either way the floor takes a beating that a vacuum cannot keep up with.
Clay, dust, and a long humid season
Lexington County red clay is the constant. It comes inside on shoes and paws, and because the particles are so fine, the pigment works down past the surface of the carpet and lodges in the pile where it sets. People try to scrub it out and end up spreading a small spot into a wide orange smudge. Clay needs lifting, not scrubbing, and lifting it is what our method is built to do.
Then the Midlands humidity stretches the problem out. Carpet padding holds moisture all summer, and a damp pad is where the musty smell starts. A rented steam machine soaks everything and leaves it wet most of a day, which only makes that worse in air this heavy. We run a low-moisture, carbonated clean instead, lifting the embedded clay and dirt to the surface, pulling it out, and leaving the carpet dry enough to walk on in roughly an hour.
